01-02 Nov 2022/ After a nice 17-hour boat trip between Copenhagen and Oslo where I learnt a little bit about the History of alcohol, I have now officially started a new position at CEES. I really hope that I will have a great time here taking the opportunity to explore the Norwegian Nature during the months to come! πŸ”οΈ πŸ₯Ύ β›Ί
27-28 Oct 2022/ Today and tomorrow I will be at CEES participating in the kick-off meeting of our Sparrow Genomics project. I am looking forward to discuss together with my peers ideas regarding the evolution of these ubiquitous little feathered dinosaurs. πŸ€“ πŸ“š
12-13 Oct 2022/ I went to Oslo for the very first time to participate in the The Annual CEES Student Conference. I really liked the structure of the conference because it was devoted to MSc and PhD students providing thus the young generation with a great opportunity to present their work. It was also nice to visit Oslo and I am looking forward to the commencement of my 3-year post-doc position at CEES where I will be working on Sparrow Genomics. 🐦 🧬 πŸ’»
15 Sep 2022/ One more article coming from my friend and colleague Waldir Miron is out. 🐠 🧬
31 Aug 2022/ My collaboration with Waldir Miron bears one more fruit: new article on the phylogenomic relationships of Kryptolebias. 🐟 🧬
24 Aug 2022/ Later today I will be going to Kristiansand β€” Β‘it will be my first time in Norway! β€” to attent the Final MarGen II Meeting. I am looking forward to meeting everyone a last time, and to hearing about the developments of all the other projects as well as presenting my own advancements. πŸ€“ πŸ’»
17 Jun 2022/ I finished reading Why Evolution is True by Jerry A. Coyne. A couple os weeks ago I also finished reading What Evolution Is by Ernst Mayr, so it was a good opportunity to compare these two books directly. I will now read some Literature, but soon I will be back to my studies on Evolutionary Biology. πŸ“š πŸ€“
24 May 2022/ This week I am at by the Adriatic Sea in Italy together with the Sparrow Group. Our intention is to catch and release many birds. The data produced out of this sampling effort will eventually be used my many researchers inclusing myself as a post-doc at the Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis at the University of Oslo in Norway. So I hope we will be seeing loads of birds in our nets!
28 Apr 2022/ Since yesterday I have been attending the MarGen II Meeting held at the Danish Shellfish Centre β€” DTU Aqua in NykΓΈbing Mors, Denmark. I has been great to hear the updates on all the projects. πŸ¦ͺ πŸ¦€ 🦞 I also presented a quick update on our Baltic Sea Genomics project. The weather has been amazing! 😎
25 Apr 2022/ After being in the Northeast of Brazil for a whole amazing month on holidays, I am now back to work in Silkeborg. I have 6 months left to finalise our projects on fish 🐟 🐠 🐑 before I move to Oslo by the end of October. Work, work, work it is! πŸ€“
01 Mar 2022/ I am glad to announce that I have accepted an offer to do a three-year post-doc together with Prof. Glenn-Peter SΓ¦tre, Assist. Prof. Mark Ravinet & Dr. Melissah Rowe. I will be based at the Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis at the University of Oslo in Norway. Leveraging large-scale genomic data, we will be investigating several aspects of the House Sparrow evolution. I am very excited to go back to the field of Avian Genomics 🐧 🦜 🐦, and also to move to a new country after more than 10 years living in Denmark πŸ™ƒ β€” the intended starting date is the 1st of September 2022.
16 Nov 2021/ I am already in Gothenburg, Sweden to attend the Pangenomes: Evolution and Computation Meeting to be held tomorrow at the Conference Centre Wallenberg β€” University of Gothenburg. I am very much looking forward to hearing from the experts in pangenomics about the advancements in this interesting front of modern Biology.
27 Oct 2021/ For the next 2 days I will be attending the MarGen II Annual Meeting held at the beautiful TjÀrnâ Marina Laboratorium in Sweden. It is my first time outside Denmark in almost 2 years 😨, and I am excited to share the incipient results coming from our Baltic Sea Genomics project.
07 Oct 2021/ Another collaborative article of mine was accepted today to be published by the International Journal of Avian Science.
23 Sep 2021/ I had a brief participation in the courses on Introductory Evolutionary Biology taught by Prof. Rosemberg Menezes to the programmes in Agronomy & Veterinary Medicine at the Federal University of ParaΓba in Brazil. I gave a short lecture to each class on general concepts in Evolutionary Genomics, and discoursed upon my career in this field so far.
22 Sep 2021/ Waldir's article was accepted and will be soon published by Genes. Congratulations, Waldir!
15 Sep 2021/ I gave a mini-workshop this morning on how Git & GitHub can should be used in Science. You can see the short tutorial we used here. #OpenScience!
17 Aug 2021/ I participated in the virtual MarGen II meeting since our in-person meeting was postponed to October β€” looking forward to finally meeting everyone personally when the right time comes!
16 Aug 2021/ Waldir's article has now been submitted to Genes.
