23 Mar 2024/ After my well-deserved time in Brazil visiting family & attending a national conference, I am finally back to Norway. I returned already going to BodΓΈ to serve as a lecturer in the 2024 PhD Course in Population Genomics at the Nord University but I am now back to Oslo and looking forward to resuming my postdoctoral activities.
19 Mar 2024/ Together with two other young researchers, it is great that I was awared a NIG-JOINT (A) grant. The value of this small grant is 150.000 Yen (~ 10.700 NOK), and it will help facilitating our upcoming sparrow sampling in Japan during May β€” June later this year. πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ 🌸 🐦
03 Feb 2024/ I am very glad to be going to Brazil tomorrow for some holidays! During my 40 days in the South β€” beside a well-deserved time with my family & friends β€” I will be participating in the XXXV Brazilian Congress on Zoology. I am looking forward to taking advantage of this opportunity to expand my Brazilian Evolutionary Biology network. Finally, during my time there I will be working on the advancement of the procedures for the establishment of the Brazilian Society for Evolutionary Biology. 🍹 🐚 β˜€οΈ
09 Jan 2024/ First post of 2024! I am happy to share that I will be a lecturer in the 2024 PhD Course in Population Genomics at the Nord University in the beautiful region of BodΓΈ. I am sure this will be a great opportunity for me to spread the knowledge I have acquired within the field of Evolutionary Genomics. πŸ’¬ 🧊 🌌
18 Dec 2023/ I got the great news today that I was awarded the UiO:Life Science Internationalisation Support to help me with my fieldwork to collect tree sparrows & visit the lab of Prof. Kitano in Japan next year. I am really looking forward to this field season and to all new collabarations I will be involved with. πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ 🌸 πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄
11 Nov 2023/ I am pleased to inform that one more article coming out from my time in Copenhagen is now published in Molecular Biology and Evolution. I had the initial idea for this project and collected its preliminary data. Then, it was transferred to GermΓ‘n HernΓ‘ndez-Alonso, who lead and greatly expanded this project as part of his PhD.
05 Nov 2023/ I am very happy to communicate that I was awarded the SMBE Interdisciplinary & Regional Meetings Grant together with five other Brazilian colleagues. This grant will not only help us to create the Brazilian Society for Evolutionary Biology, but also hold an inaugural congress where the newly created society will be made known. More about it soon!
11 Oct 2023/ I gave a small presentation at the The Annual CEES Student Conference 2023 about the progress of my post-doc at CEES. I presented very incipient results but I will sure that I will have much more to say during the conference to be held next year β€” so stay tuned! πŸ’¬ πŸ“Š 🐦
26 Sep 2023/ I am happy to say that my last collaboration with Mikkel Skovrind is finally out in Fisheries Research. This goes way back, has to do with Perch in the Baltic Sea & you can read it here. 🐟 🌊 🎣
28 Jul 2023/ I am glad to announce that I just affiliated myself to the Sociedade Brasileira de Ornitologia 🐧 🦜 🐦. After being outside Brazil for so many years, I do want now to start expanding my network there. Thus, this affiliation is also in preparation for my participation in the XXXV Brazilian Congress on Zoology that will be held in the beautiful Porto de Galinhas by the end of February next year. I am looking forward to finding myself discussing Avian Biology with Brazilian scholars in the vicinity of my hometown! 🌞 🌊 πŸ–οΈ
16 Jul 2023/ After being in the Chokpak region (Kazakhstan) helping in the sampling live sparrows, I spent a few days visiting the Avian Section of the British Natural Museum in Tring to study their sparrow collection. I am now back to Oslo where I have started to analyse our incipient genomic data. It is great to be in Scandinavia during the remaining summer period. Nonetheless, the winter is coming β€” and I am inevitably reminded of seeds and their locations. πŸ₯Ά 🌨️ β›„ I should stop conversing with the old wizard from the South.
16 Mar 2023/ Once again I participated in the courses on Introductory Evolutionary Biology taught by Prof. Rosemberg Menezes to the programmes in Agronomy & Veterinary Medicine at the Federal University of ParaΓba in Brazil. After my short lecture to each class on general concepts in Evolutionary Genomics, we had a lively discussion on the topic of Evoltuion and its clear implications to these derived fields. πŸ₯ 🌾
08-10 Feb 2023/ During this week, I attended my very first conference in Norway: Norwegian Biodiversity & Genomics Conference. It was a great pleasure to network with both local and international peers working on Genomics. Reflecting upon everything that was discussed, I am left with the impression that the current state of the field with so many consortia and a sheer amount of data being generated is similar to that of the Hubble Deep Field β€” we do not really know what this exposure will reveal, but it is still worth collectiong the data. πŸ“Š πŸ“ˆ πŸ—£οΈ
01-02 Nov 2022/ After a nice 17-hour boat trip between Copenhagen and Oslo where I learnt a little bit about the History of alcohol, I have now officially started a new position at CEES. I really hope that I will have a great time here taking the opportunity to explore the Norwegian Nature during the months to come! πŸ”οΈ πŸ₯Ύ β›Ί
27-28 Oct 2022/ Today and tomorrow I will be at CEES participating in the kick-off meeting of our Sparrow Genomics project. I am looking forward to discuss together with my peers ideas regarding the evolution of these ubiquitous little feathered dinosaurs. πŸ€“ πŸ“š
12-13 Oct 2022/ I went to Oslo for the very first time to participate in the The Annual CEES Student Conference. I really liked the structure of the conference because it was devoted to MSc and PhD students providing thus the young generation with a great opportunity to present their work. It was also nice to visit Oslo and I am looking forward to the commencement of my 3-year post-doc position at CEES where I will be working on Sparrow Genomics. 🐦 🧬 πŸ’»

A couple os weeks ago I also finished reading What Evolution Is by Ernst Mayr, so it was a good opportunity to compare these two books directly. I will now read some Literature, but soon I will be back to my studies on Evolutionary Biology. πŸ“š πŸ€“
24 May 2022/ This week I am at by the Adriatic Sea in Italy together with the Sparrow Group. Our intention is to catch and release many birds. The data produced out of this sampling effort will eventually be used my many researchers inclusing myself as a post-doc at the Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis at the University of Oslo in Norway. So I hope we will be seeing loads of birds in our nets!
